The report of the outcomes of the symposium
The School of Health Sciences, Gunma university organized the second symposium on [Assessment of teamwork education] on 20 December (Sat) 2009 at the Millennium Hall of the said university
Eight JIPWEN member universities presented their IPE programs and educational outcomes. During and after the presentations, an intensive exchange of opinions took place on IPE educational effects.
They reported a wide range of programs, including a research on attitude modification in students before and after the IPE program, a qualitative analysis of student opinions and their responses to interviews, and educational assessment corresponding to the agenda of the IPE curricula set for each year.
The presentations and discussions among participants highlighted various key factors that could optimize the IPE programs. Factors included the necessity to introducing new evaluation methods such as internationally standardized ones, the importance of a follow-up research about attitude modification sustained in graduates to assess the sustainability of IPE effects, and the necessity to conducting a research about perceptions of academic staff involved in the IPE programs.
Through the presentations and discussions, I renewed my mind to make efforts to evaluate the teamwork training program of my university more objectively and universally.
Thanks to the symposium, both academic staff and participants were able to obtain deeper understanding of IPE assessment methods. ( reported by Kiyotaka Iwasaki)
